Alexander Rolfe graduated from Manchester University in 2000. After a period of time with Guardian Media Group he was taken into employment by European Card Review - Europe's leading payments magazine - as the m-commerce editor. In May 2002 the decision was taken to launch a sister magazine to European Card Review, which covered the ever widening market of m-payments. Thus Mobile Payments World was born. Alexander is now the publisher of European Card Review, a partner at ECR Publishing and remains the editor and publisher of Mobile Payments World.

Altug Acar Altug Acar, Division Head of Business Development, Turkcell

Altug Acar is the Division Head of New Business Development at Turkcell, leading mobile operator in Turkey, where he is responsible for identifying strategic growth opportunities and development of new services and businesses.

Before joining Turkcell, Mr. Acar was Director of Product Management at Semotus Solutions, a San Jose, CA based wireless applications and services firm. Prior to Semotus Solutions, Mr. Acar worked as an analyst for Red Herring Communications, a San Francisco-based media company. Previously, Mr. Acar worked with various Internet start-ups in Silicon Valley on product management and business development.

Mr. Acar holds an MBA degree from University of San Francisco and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Middle East Technical University, Turkey. Mr. Acar also attended the University of California, Berkeley E-Business & Technology and San Jose State University E-commerce Management programs.

Christian Séré-AnnichiniChristian Séré-Annichini , head of New Business Development, SFR

Christian Séré-Annichini is in  charge of the New Business team within SFR (major French telco), which includes the mobile NFC topic. SFR has been leading mobile NFC developments in France, and is a member of the Pegasus (NFC payment) and Ulysse (NFC transport) groups.

Christian joined SFR in 2003, as Head of Terminals and SIM Cards marketing from 2003 to 2007.

He worked previously in the automotive industry (Peugeot, 1994-1999) and strategic consulting business (McKinsey & Co, 2000-2003).

Christian_Weitzel Christian Weitzel, Programme Manager Mobile Payment

Christian Weitzel works for Giesecke & Devrient (G&D) in the New Business Division. He assesses m-commerce business models and co-ordinates all mobile payment related activities and projects from G&D and Venyon. As a joint venture between Nokia and G&D Venyon develops and operates a service platform for the over-the-air provisioning of mobile applications to consumers' NFC enabled devices.

Christian joined G&D in 1998 after working in a Frankfurt law firm and since then held various positions, both in corporate functions and commercial divisions. He ha several years of work experience in risk and project management particularly in large-scale ID projects.

Having studied law and computer science at the universities of Münster and Hagen Christian received his PhD in law at Münster university.

chuaChua Thian Yee, CASSIS
Thian Yee founded CASSIS in 2002. He has spent more than two decades in the Smart Card and IT Industries, particularly in the application of technologies to consumer services. Prior to CASSIS, he created several Gemplus operations outside of France: Japan, Korea and Gemplus Associates in UK. He left Gemplus after successfully created the joint venture between Gemplus and Toppan Printing in Japan to provide secure shared services to the Mobile and Financial industries in Japan. Thian Yee holds an Engineering degree from the National University of Singapore, and attended executive development programs at the London Business School.

claireClaire Maslen, Head of Near Field Communications, Telefonica O2 UK

Claire Maslen is leading O2’s entry into the field of Near Field Communications. Her responsibilities include the business case development, commercial modelling, positioning of strategic alliances and shaping of the overall NFC proposition for O2. Prior to this, Claire was responsible for the launch and management of the successful O2 Wallet NFC trial in London.

Previously within O2 she has worked in the Technology Directorate where she enjoyed success with responsibility for delivery of data products and services for Tesco Mobile and O2’s 3G network.

Prior to 2002 when Claire joined O2, her background was in data networking, most significantly with Cisco, where she spent five years deploying telco networks for customers including Orange, Telecom Italia, KPN, Telenor and BT with the Colossus Project.

davidRogersDavid Rogers, OMTP
David Rogers is the Industry Relations Manager for OMTP, liaising with standards bodies and other members of the mobile phone industry. He is the Chair of OMTP's Incident Handling task and also the Programme Manager for the 'Advanced Trusted Environment'. He is the author of OMTP's security whitepaper, 'Mobile Handset Security: Securing Open Devices and Enabling Trust'. David joined OMTP in 2006 after 8 years at Panasonic Mobile. Whilst there, he headed up Panasonic's Product Security initiatives in Europe, including investigating hacking against mobile devices. He also managed a development team specialising in hardware, software and security solutions for service centres worldwide. Prior to this David worked for Fujitsu Microelectronics Ltd, in their Newton Aycliffe DRAM fab. He holds an MSc in Software Engineering from Oxford University and a HND in Mechatronics and Semiconductor Process Engineering from the University of Teesside.

Dion LisleDion Lisle, Senior Vice President, Growth Ventures and Innovation, Citibank

Dion Lisle is a Senior Vice President within Citibank’s Growth Ventures and Innovation group. Having served as the Vice President of Business Development for Obopay, Lisle came over to Citibank to drive innovation in the area of mobile payments for Citibank working initially with his previous employer, Obopay. Dion’s responsibilities cover working with Citibank’s vast array of business and geographic leaders to drive innovation within mobile payments.

Previous to Obopay, as the VP of Channels for Voltage Security, Lisle led this startup’s efforts to gain customers in financial services with a resulting client list that includes Wells Fargo, John Hancock Insurance among others. For the past 10 years Lisle has helped connect major FS providers to new initiatives by developing partnerships between technology startups and major financial services providers. Prior to his role as a technology conduit to major banks, he was a sales and marketing contributor for leading technology companies including Compaq, 3Com and Documentum. He received a BS degree from Cal-Poly, Pomona in the mid-80’s.

Dominique Descolas, advisor Research-Innovation & Sustainable Development - Veolia Transport.

Dominique has joined in 2004 Veolia Transport (Europe's leading private operator of public transportation). He is coordinating Veolia automatic fare collection systems projects, and supervises developments of innovative services on mobile phones.

He has initiated Veolia NFC field trials such as Tilamo (2005, Nice area, in partnership with Orange), and TreiZEN (2007, Bouches du Rhone district, in partnership with CG13, Crandy, ERG, Nokia, Venyon).

He is in charge of Bpass project (Veolia "solution" for services on mobile phone, ticketing + passenger information + …), which is now ready for commercial launch.

He represents UITP in ERA (European Railway Agency) for TAP (Telematics Application for Passengers) project.

Before joining Veolia, Dominique has worked 15 years in electronic transactions (for Gemalo, Parkeon, and Sema), in marketing, business development and general management.

francescoFrancesco Ialori, ICT Advisor and Journalist

Francesco Iarlori has been active in mobile industry since mid 90s. He contributed to the creation of new business model belonging to multinational companies between those: Iridium project in Arizona for Sun Microsystems and the WISHES project in Europe to support first mobile payments in North and South Europe (involving Nokia, Sonera, Gemalto, …) . He joined Omnitel in 1999 (actual Vodafone Italy) where he participated at the Omnitel 2000 project named years later Vizzavi than Vodafone live, then to the creation of Vodafone Business division.

Joined TTYL in 2001 (Telenor mobile branch) was also instrumental in implementing the first cross messaging solution over a mobile across Europe. Within Siemens he participated to definition and selling globally solutions about media & content download, RFID-SMS parking system and UMTS wireless camera systems. Since spring 2007 he is in Value Team where he is proposing to the market projects on Mobile Commerce and Mobile Advertising arena involving new business model creations and technology adoption such as NFC and QR codes.

Mr. Iarlori holds an degree in computer science from Pisa University (Italy) and is an active columnist on magazines and blogs on mobile space, he covers as well advisor roles within UN and EC projects.

Geoff Barker is a Strategic Propositions Manager at the CPP Group Plc (CPP), with specific responsibility for mobile banking and payments developments. CPP is a leading provider of Life Assistance providing consumer products and business services that help people deal with the anxieties resulting from modern life.

Geoff is an experienced professional who has specialised in the delivery of new services for some of the major names in Banking & Financial Services. He began his work in the field of mobile banking with Monitise in 2004, leading their early sales activity and developing new sales and marketing collateral. Having moved to CPP in March 2007, he is now tasked with delivering their Mobile Banking & Payments strategy, along with a number of specific mobile related products and services.

Geoff has worked in the financial services sector for nearly thirty years, building his experience initially in branch based consumer lending with HFC Bank (now a member of the HSBC Banking Group), before progressing into their Card Services Division, developing solutions across multiple channels. During this time at HFC, Geoff was instrumental in developing call centre processes and procedures for 'The GM Card', 'Goldfish' and ' Marbles' brands. He then moved to Beneficial Bank to lead a number of new Affinity Branded Card launches, including 'The Sky Card', 'Scottish Power Card' and 'United Airlines Card'. Further moves took Geoff first to GE Capital, where he was Head of Operations Projects, concentrating on delivering new business development solutions in support of their numerous storecard clients, and then Hutchison 3G UK, as Head of Contact Centre Development, during the 'start-up' phase of the '3' mobile service.

Gerald MadlmayrGerald Madlmayr , MSc, Research Associate, NFC Research Lab Hagenberg

Gerald Madlmayr is Research Associate at the Research Center Hagenberg.

There his work is focused on NFC/RFID based applications as well as security and privacy in such systems. He is an authority on NFC technology and applications, actively participating in the standardization of NFC. Within the scope of his job one of the most sophisticated NFC trials was launched in 2006. His work is mirrored in more than 15 international publications, a patent as well as the annual NFC Congress in Hagenberg.

Gerald Madlmayr holds a diploma in Media Technology from the University of Applied Sciences of Hagenberg and currently is a PhD candidate in computer science at the Johannes Kepler University, Linz.

Hugh is the Chief Operating Officer with The Light Agency in London, where he joined in July 2007 to steer successful expansion and development. He has extensive Commercial and Information Technology experience from many years with Procter & Gamble, working in Europe, the US, and in Global roles. His experience spans all areas of the business from Commercial to Research and Innovation with particularly recent extensive experience of collaborative working with Retailers and Suppliers. He is passionate around delivering success based on managing all elements of change - culture, systems and processes. He has an MA in Mathematics from Cambridge University and an MSc in Operational Research from Birmingham University.

Jerome Juvin has an Engineering degree in Electronics and Microelectronics from the CPE Lyon School, France. He also holds a Professional Diploma in Marketing from Richmond College, England.

He gained experience abroad as an HW engineer, FAE and then as a Business Development Manager in Europe in the Telecommunication industry.

In his current role, Jerome is responsible for the business development of NXP strategy in NFC (Near Field Communication) in Europe in the fields of Transport and Payment for the mobile phone and PC / Consumer market.

John Harvey is Director Business Development for ViVOtech’s NFC Software products in the EMEA region. With 20 years experience in the payments industry including special expertise in card transaction processing for 13 years and mobile payments for the last 7 years, John is well positioned to recognize those mobile payment platforms which can succeed and those which will not. Having studied computer engineering at Trinity College Dublin, Ireland, prior to joining ViVOtech, John has worked with companies such as Trintech, Verifone and paybox.

Josef LangerJosef Langer , Head of NFC Lab Hagenberg, NEXPERTS

Josef Langer is working since more than 10 years in the smart card and terminal hardware area. He studied electrical engineering at the TU Vienna and RWTH Aachen and received his PhD in Computer Science from the Johannes Kepler University in Linz. Josef also holds a Master degree in philosophy and history from the University of Vienna.

Josef holds the position of a professor for microprocessor engineering at the University Of Applied Sciences Of Upper Austria since January 2003. In 2007 he was appointed as Chief Technology Officer at NEXPERTS GmbH, a leading NFC solutions provider, based in Hagenberg, Austria.

Josef is head of the NFC Research Lab and head of the Research Group Embedded Systems at his university. He is author of more than 30 publications. His current research interests are Near Field Communication and embedded real time systems.

Mary Carol HarrisMary Carol Harris , Head of Mobile, Visa Europe

Mary Carol joined Visa Europe from 02 UK in February 2008 to lead Visa's mobile product development. Her role at Visa Europe focuses on how mobile cuts across the business to drive Visa Europe's key strategic objectives.

At O2 UK, she led a team that delivered the O2 Wallet NFC trial, currently Europe's largest and most comprehensive trial of Near Field Communications. The service brought together a number of industry leaders and suppliers to test this capability on a large scale in the UK with consumers. Prior to that, she was Head of Marketing at Upaid, a small start up company based in London and Paris that worked with banks and operators across Eastern Europe and North Africa to launch some of the early SMS based mobile payments services offered on the market.

Mary Carol has over 8 years, experience in delivering mobile payments solutions to the market. Her specialty is working where financial and mobile services intersect. She has a particular interest in Near Field Communications and contactless services as well as mobile user interface.

Mary Carol holds a Masters from the Institut d’etudes politiques de Paris (Sciences-Po) after having completed her BA in the United States at the University of the South (Sewanee). She is fluent in French and Italian.

martinMartin Gruber, Marketing Director MST AFC, NXP Semiconductors

Martin Gruber holds a degree in Business Administration from the Karl-Franzens University Graz, Austria; during his studies, he gained experience abroad as an exchange student at the University of Queensland, Australia and at the Universidad de Extremadura, Spain. Additionally, he holds a postgraduate degree in Export, Marketing & International Management from the Karl-Franzens University Graz, Austria. In 2007, he completed his Executive MBA Program in General Management at the IMC Graz, Austria.

He has several years of work experience in Project Management, Product Management, and Segment Marketing Management. In his current role, Martin Gruber is responsible for the global market development of NXP Semiconductors’ strategy in Automatic Fare Collection (AFC), Access Control and Event Ticketing wrt the mifare interface technology.

Martin Gruber has held workshops as guest speaker at the Karl-Franzens University Graz, Austria and at the SCMHRD in Pune, India. He is a regular speaker at public transport and smart card venues.

Martin Gruber is working together with national specification bodies such as RKF (Sweden), ITSO (UK) and VDV (Germany). He is a member of the ITSI Committee of UITP and has published several articles on smart card technology and e-ticketing in international magazines such as LeRail (2007), EUROTRANSPORT (2007, 2008), ID People (2007) and More RFID (2007).

Michel Bayings is Sr. Management Consultant in the Business Innovation team from Logica Management Consulting. Michel has become a specialist on Near Field Communication (NFC), with a focus on the NFC eco-system. Michel is responsible for all NFC related business, was Project Manager for the Dutch NFC C1000 pilot and is actively involved in several other NFC projects. Michel joined Logica in 2004. Before joining Logica, Michel several international business development roles, all with a focus on innovation and mobility.

Previously Michel had his own IT company for several years, and worked for a large Telco and IT company. His job has always been related to mobile and innovative technology and businesses. Michel has a Master of Science Post Graduate degree in IT management.

Michel is living in Breda, The Netherlands and is born in 1971. His passion is old-timer rally's and diving.

mikeMike Short,Chairman, MDA; VP R&D, O2

Mike’s career spans 33 years in Electronics and Telecommunications, with the last 20 years in Mobile Communications.  He was appointed Contracts Director of Cellnet in 1989 dealing with major infra-structure investments and UK interconnect agreements.  In 1993 the focus moved to launching Cellnet’s GSM service and establishing Roaming Agreements.

He was elected Chairman of the GSM Association for 1995/96 and served on their Executive Board for 5 years.  He has also served as a member of the UK Home Office Internet Task Force and UK OSAB (Ofcom Spectrum Advisory Board) until 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Mike has chaired the MDA since 1998, leading the Association as Chairman /spokesperson and on Public Policy.

He was appointed VP Technology for O2 Group in 2000, Visiting Professor at Surrey University in 2003 and to the Coventry University Board in 2006.  He is a Fellow of BCS/CIPS/RGS, a Member of IET and the Royal Television Society

Mike’s focus today is on Third Generation cellular, Mobile TV and steering Telefonica O2 Europe’s Group Research and Development in mobile.

Nick MirzaNick Mirza , NFC Business Development Manager, EMEA, Nokia

Nick Mirza works for Nokia as NFC (Near Field Communication) Business Development Manager for the EMEA region.

For over three years he has been responsible for developing and promoting the use of Nokia NFC devices in the the Business and consumer market segments. He has been a key contributor to many of the NFC projects in Europe.

He joined Nokia in 1998 as Account Manager for one of the major European mobile operators in Switzerland and was responsible for the customer portfolio of network services and the after sales services such as network operations.

peterPeter Parkanyi,Project Coordinator, StoLPaN

Peter Parkanyi joined Motorola in 1996. Since this time he has been working for the Mobile Devices Business in various product and technical management positions. As Technical Account Manager his team’s current responsibility is the management of the technological and quality matters related to mobile handsets targeted to the Central European mobile operators and retail channels.

He leads the R&D activities of the Stolpan European Commission project about NFC and used to lead similarly projects and initiatives in m-commerce and multimedia.

Prior to joining Motorola, Peter worked for Nokia as a GSM expert.

Peter holds a joint Engineering-Economics degree from the Budapest University of Economic Sciences and an MScEE from the Technical University of Budapest. He was also the recipient of a one year research scholarship to study at the Technical University of Karlsruhe where he studied Computer Science.

Saadi HussainSaadi Hussain , Head of Commercial Proposition, BT

Saadi Hussain is the Head Of Commercial Proposition for BT where he is responsible for developing mobile proposition for the Corporate sector. His current focus is on m-commerce, M-ticketing and implementation of mobile technology in to business processes.

He has worked within the mobile sector for more than 10yrs with employers such as KPMG Consulting and O2 - where he was head of strategic partners.

stephanieStephanie Manning, Chief Engineer, Research and Development, Vodafone Group

Stephanie Manning has over 15 years experience in the mobile industry with a background in mathematics, security and smart cards. She is currently leading the Vodafone Group strategy on Mobile NFC, and supporting Vodafone Operators with their mobile NFC plans. She is the Vodafone representative at the NFC Forum, and is an active member of the two GSM Association projects focussed on NFC, including Pay Buy Mobile.

Tommy Jensen is a senior executive in the mobile industry with many years of experience in mobile content and mobile technology. Having worked with many of the biggest players in the industry, he is an executive with experience from business development and business start-ups in the IT and mobile sector.

vicent Vincent Berge, Mobile Distillery
Vincent is the co-founder and General Manager of Mobile Distillery. With a background in computer engineering in the CAD, broadcast and entertainment industries, prior to founding Mobile Distillery Vincent spent 7 years working for Autodesk as European Marketing director. Before this, Vincent worked at IBM where he was segment marketing manager for multiple high-tech groups including IBM's European eBusiness, 3D technologies and IBM's nascent VR group.
